According to Edward, the boat was based in Tignish, PEI, and it was primarily used in the fishing and lumber trades. The song tells the story of a voyage from Northport in dangerous icy waters in the year 1893, culminating in a terribly sad ending as the schooner tried to reach the French islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. The melody to this song is well-known on the Island and has been used for other songs about marine tragedies. <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=39&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Fitzgerald%2C+Ed+%28vocals%29">Fitzgerald, Ed (vocals)</a> <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=39&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Fitzgerald%2C+Ruth+%28vocals%2C+guitar%29">Fitzgerald, Ruth (vocals, guitar)</a> Séamus Connolly Boston College Libraries 2016-02-12 <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" rel="license"><img style="border-width: 0;" src="https://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-nc/4.0/88x31.png" alt="Creative Commons License" /></a><br />This work is licensed under a <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" rel="license">Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License</a>. <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=46&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Fitzgerald%2C+Ed+">Fitzgerald, Ed </a> <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=46&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Fitzgerald%2C+Ruth">Fitzgerald, Ruth</a> Some transcriptions are based on historical source recordings. <a href="/exhibits/show/essays/essay-sweeney">More info.</a> http://library.bc.edu/connolly/plugins/Dropbox/files/IMC_M064_2013_03_0912.mp3 http://library.bc.edu/connolly/plugins/Dropbox/files/09-12_The_Gracie_M_Parker-Song.pdf
