In his own words he tells us about his composition's title: 'This tune has nothing to do with hunting, despite what one might logically guess. I wrote this reel while waiting a long time for a taxi from a company with 'fox' and 'field' in its name. I observed several taxis from that company pass right by before mine finally arrived.' Since writing this tune in 2007, Eric has slightly revised the melody, which can be found in his book of original tunes and heard on a 2014 CD by The Moving Violations. The band members on that recording are Van Kaynor and Ron Grosslein on fiddles, Eric Eid-Reiner on piano, and Chuck Corman on bass. <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=39&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Eid-Reiner%2C+Eric+%28piano%29+%28composer%29">Eid-Reiner, Eric (piano) (composer)</a> Séamus Connolly Boston College Libraries 2016-02-12 <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" rel="license"><img style="border-width: 0;" src="https://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-nc/4.0/88x31.png" alt="Creative Commons License" /></a><br />This work is licensed under a <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" rel="license">Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License</a>. <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=46&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Eid-Reiner%2C+Eric+">Eid-Reiner, Eric </a> Some transcriptions are based on historical source recordings. <a href="/exhibits/show/essays/essay-sweeney">More info.</a> http://library.bc.edu/connolly/plugins/Dropbox/files/IMC_M064_2013_03_0521.mp3 http://library.bc.edu/connolly/plugins/Dropbox/files/05-21_Small_Fox_Big_Field-Reel.pdf Poke and a Tickle, A <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=49&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Folk+dance+music--Ireland">Folk dance music--Ireland</a> <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=49&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Jigs">Jigs</a> <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=49&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Piano+music--Ireland">Piano music--Ireland</a> While reflecting on Eric Eid-Reiner's musical compositions, my first thought was that he created 'happy music'. Indeed, as Eric himself described it, this is 'a light-hearted jig with a sense of humour'. Eric kindly arrived at Boston College one Sunday morning at eight o'clock to record this tune in the Irish Room at Gasson Hall. An unreasonable and unnatural hour, one might say, for a musician to record. Thanks for being so gracious, as always, Eric. <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=39&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Eid-Reiner%2C+Eric+%28piano%29+%28composer%29">Eid-Reiner, Eric (piano) (composer)</a> Séamus Connolly Boston College Libraries 2016-02-12 <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" rel="license"><img style="border-width: 0;" src="https://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-nc/4.0/88x31.png" alt="Creative Commons License" /></a><br />This work is licensed under a <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" rel="license">Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License</a>. <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=46&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Eid-Reiner%2C+Eric+">Eid-Reiner, Eric </a> Some transcriptions are based on historical source recordings. <a href="/exhibits/show/essays/essay-sweeney">More info.</a> http://library.bc.edu/connolly/plugins/Dropbox/files/IMC_M064_2013_03_0616.mp3 http://library.bc.edu/connolly/plugins/Dropbox/files/06-16_A_Poke_and_a_Tickle-Single_Jig.pdf Johnson State Jig, The <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=49&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Folk+dance+music--Ireland">Folk dance music--Ireland</a> <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=49&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Jigs">Jigs</a> <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=49&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Piano+music--Ireland">Piano music--Ireland</a> <a href="/items/browse?advanced%5B0%5D%5Belement_id%5D=49&advanced%5B0%5D%5Btype%5D=is+exactly&advanced%5B0%5D%5Bterms%5D=Eid-Reiner%2C+Eric">Eid-Reiner, Eric</a> Another tune that Eric Eid-Reiner played for me during that <a href="http://connollymusiccollection.bc.edu/document/502" target="_self">early morning recording session</a> in Gasson Hall on the Boston College campus.
